Google has finally launched Allo, its instant messaging app with tons of smart features for Android and iOS, after the company first announced it at its I/O developer conference in May 2016. The app includes a Google Virtual Assistant and offers a “smart reply” function that allows users to reply without typing.
The company mentioned in its blog post, “Google Allo can help you make plans, find information, and express yourself more easily in chat. And the more you use it, the more it improves over time.”
Let’s have a Quick Look at Allo’s features:-
RESPOND QUICKLY WITH SMART REPLY
Allo’s “Smart Reply” function uses Google’s machine learning technology to suggest a reply to the last message you’ve received, which can be selected from a few options. For instance: if your friend sends you a photo of his pet, you might see Smart Reply suggestions like “aww cute!”, or “Lovely Labrador” that you can send with a single tap on your phone. Moreover, the Smart Reply function learns from your replies to adapt its suggestions over time.
SHOUT OR WHISPER TO GET YOUR POINT ACROSS
Allo allows you to add more meaning to your words by letting you adjust the size of your text. You can make emojis and text appear larger or smaller in size by simply dragging the “send” button up or down. Also, you can get creative with photos you send by doodling on them or overlaying text (note: this feature is only available on Android). The app also includes a wide variety of stickers that are designed by independent artists and studios from around the world.
MEET YOUR PERSONAL GOOGLE ASSISTANT
Allo brings you the Google Assistant. Your Assistant can suggest restaurants nearby or movies to check out, right in your conversation. This means you no longer need to leave a conversation with friends just to find an address, share your favorite YouTube video, or pick a restaurant. Just type @google to bring your Assistant into any group chat. And of course, you can also chat one-one-one with your Assistant in Allo. The more you use it, the more useful it gets.
CHAT IN INCOGNITO MODE
Though all the chats in Allo are encrypted, but Google will have an access to non-incognito chats stored on the user’s device so that it can provide more data to its machine learning algorithms, with the aim to improve the functionality of its Assistant and Smart Reply features. Enter Incognito mode that uses end-to-end encryption and comes with expiring chats feature. Google will not be able to access chats in incognito mode in any form. However, using the Incognito Mode means you won’t be able to use Allo’s Smart Reply and Assistant features.
